Shopify → Google Merchant Center
Make a Google Shopping feed from Shopify
Upload your Shopify product export and get a tab-delimited Merchant Center file: one item per variant, grouped by product, with links, images, prices in Google's format and stock turned into availability.
What the conversion looks like
A small Shopify export and the Google Merchant Center file the converter makes from it. This is the converter's real output.

1. Export from Shopify
- 1In Shopify admin, go to Products and click Export.
- 2Choose All products and CSV for Excel, Numbers, or other spreadsheet programs, then click Export products.
- 3Shopify emails you the file (or downloads it right away for small stores). Both the new and the older column names are understood.
2. Import into Google Merchant Center
- 1Enter your store's address and currency above the converter, so each product gets a link and every price a currency code.
- 2Run the file through the CSV Fixer with the Google Merchant Center preset to check GTINs, prices and required attributes.
- 3In Merchant Center, go to Products → Add products → Add products from a file, and upload the .txt file. Google checks it and lists any problems under Products → Needs attention.
What doesn't carry over
- Each variant becomes its own item, grouped by item_group_id. Links point to the product page, not a specific variant; Google accepts that, but a ?variant= link shows shoppers the right option.
- Draft, archived and unpublished products are left out, because Google only lists products shoppers can buy.
- condition is set to new for every product and google_product_category is left for Google to choose. Change them where needed.
Before importing, run the file through the Google Merchant Center CSV fixer to catch anything Google Merchant Center would reject.
Questions
Why not use the Google & YouTube app?
The app syncs automatically and is the easiest route for many stores. A file gives you control: you can review every value, fix titles or GTINs in bulk, or feed a second Merchant Center account.
How are sale prices handled?
When a variant has a compare-at price above its price, the compare-at price becomes price and the current price becomes sale_price, which is how Google shows a discount.
Which barcodes become GTINs?
Barcodes with 8, 12, 13 or 14 digits and a correct check digit. Others are left out of gtin and counted in a warning, so a wrong barcode never reaches Google.
